4) On the marked off area, lay out your flattened weed barrier, over the whole area that was marked. This will be used as a barrier from the ground surface to prevent nematodes and other insects from coming up to the garden from underneath. The barrier is also porous so that water will drain trough.

5) On top of the barrier lay 3 concrete blocks continuously with the open cells facing up & down on each side. On the ten foot sides you will need 7 concrete blocks with the open cells facing up & down butting against each other. You now have a rectangular framed vegetable garden approximately 10 foot x 4 foot.

8) The idea on the 4 foot wide beds is so that you can plant or work the beds from either side and not disturb the fragile root system of the plants.

Be sure to monitor your plants daily for water. It’s best to water early in the morning and mulching between the vegetable rows to conserve water. Vegetable gardens need at least 1/2 to 1 inch of water per week.
